Welcome! I'd like to take this opportunity to share a little about the psychotherapy service I provide. I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Contra Costa County for 25 years.

Although I work with individuals, couples, and families, my specialty is helping children who struggle with behavioral and/or emotional problems in conjuction with parenting support, education and coaching.  I use (and teach) playful and positive means to help children develop the capacity for regulation, anger management skills, social skills, motivation, and expression of feelings. Since parents have such an impact, I often suggest we work together first on attuned listening skills and strategic parenting methods that improve parental effectiveness, through building on the child's innate desire to feel successful and please parents. 

Play therapy is the treatment of choice for young children and is something at which I am particularly skilled. Children tend to feel immediately comfortable with my natural, playful style. The parents I work with particularly value my direct, but caring, approach while providing guidance for parenting children that have difficult behavioral problems. I have taught parenting classes in several settings, including the specialized area of coparenting around divorce.  Interactions with me are relaxed and comfortable; no heavy analysis setting here.

I always welcome the opportunity to work with parents, families and children under stress. Let's face it: aren't we all?  No situation is beyond hope; my clients leave our sessions with real insight and tools with which to move beyond their troubling issues.

My clients come from diverse backgrounds. I am especially interested in the unique challenges so often found in intercultural relationships, blended families, and families with special needs children. I believe in building on your strengths and "keeping it positive."
