You are losing sleep over this…You just want to be a good parent!

Parenting a teenager can feel like navigating a storm – overwhelming, unpredictable, and isolating. You might be worried about constant arguments, your teen’s mood swings, online stressors, academic struggles, or even their risky behaviors and social pressures.

Perhaps you're feeling unsure how to connect with them or help them manage their emotions and anxiety. But you don’t have to weather this alone. Together, we’ll uncover tools to ease the tension, strengthen your connection, and guide your teen toward growth with confidence and compassion.

I am ready to help you reclaim your confidence as a parent, as well as your loving relationship with your child (whether they are 2 or 22). I will help you master effective parenting techniques for teens or younger children that will allow you both to succeed.

As an expert in parenting, teen, and child therapy, I have helped hundreds of parents just like you, to break free from the cycle of worry and self-doubt, to develop healthy communication skills and positive parenting techniques, and to reclaim a joyful and loving family dynamic. Therapy from an independent provider with 25 years of experience is the better help you deserve.

Services

  • Therapy for teens helps with issues like anxiety and depression by building self-awareness, self-esteem, assertive communication skills, coping strategies and emotional support. It helps improve communication skills and strengthen relationships with peers and family.

  • Therapy for children can help them express feelings and learn to regulate their emotions better. It is a safe space to identify and practice communicating things and to learn how to handle tough situations. Play therapy allows children to express feelings, thoughts, and needs they have trouble putting into words.

  • Family therapy helps improve communication between family members, making it easier to express feelings and resolve conflicts. In this supportive environment, families can learn to work together to overcome challenges and strengthen their bonds. Engaging in family therapy fosters understanding and respect, leading to healthier relationships within the family.

Sessions are available online
in the evenings (including weekends).

Over the past 25 years, I have worked in community child and adolescent mental health, in a clinic, in schools, and in the community. Through this varied and extensive experience with complex emotional and behavioral issues, I developed expertise in helping distressed teens, children, and their families.

In addition to my role as a community mental health clinician, I taught parenting at a mental health clinic and through adult education, and worked with divorcing families at a private organization called Kids Turn.

The skills and strategies I use also draw on my foundation of training in drama therapy and the arts.

Over the years, I have developed a passion for parent therapy as I saw the change that was possible for youth through collaboration with their parents.

Julie brings heart and presence into the healing space
— Alex McBride
Drama Therapist
Julie looks at you and understands...she treasures the individual while having good knowledge of larger systems — you couldn’t ask for a more thoughtful, insightful therapist...
— Annette Blackman, MFT Contra Costa County Children’s Mental Health colleague
I have had the opportunity to work with Julie by way of co-facilitating groups and consulting with her. Julie has an amazing ability to absorb human interactions and translate them into a metaphor, movement, and play in a way that illuminates the deeper meaning of them. She has an ability to listen to what is not yet said and bring it to the surface in a safe and accepting manner. Her intuition and experience with modes of communication other than spoken language allow her to help clients access unfamiliar aspects of themselves and gain new perspectives.  I would entrust her with any of my clients and know they are in safe hands.
— Gerold Loenecker, MFT
Contra Costa County Children’s Mental Health colleague
I am a Licensed Psychologist with over thirty years of experience providing services to children, adolescents and families. I have also been involved in the training and supervision of child, adolescent and family therapists for this same timeframe. Julie Weigel MFT is one of the most gifted child and adolescent psychotherapists I have known. She is compassionate, caring and persistently positive. Finally she is incredibly creative and integrates drama, role playing, humor and fun into her approach in a unique way. I recommend her without hesitation.
— Grant Wyborny, Ph.D. Clinic Director, Concord Children’s Mental Health
Julie is exceptionally skilled and provides meaningful support to children and their families. Her approach is extremely positive and children respond to her bright smile and warm demeanor.
