About Me

Welcome!

julie

You’re here because you have an anxious child that worries you night and day or communication is not working as well as it should be in your life.

My personal and professional background

As a single parent of two now young adult men, I learned firsthand about managing the kinds of challenges parents face. I taught divorcing and separating families at “Kids Turn” in order to learn to practice in my life what I was teaching. In 2015, I went to Nepal after the devastating earthquakes they faced and provided three days of workshops to Nepali speaking paraprofessionals so they would be prepared to provide the kind of attuned listening that would best serve the earthquake survivors most impacted by trauma and loss. When the children’s mental health clinic I worked for was impacted by the pandemic a few years later, my certainty that these same listening skills could transform lives was further reinforced. I was determined to help kids through helping parents, thereby creating the most change in the family ecosystem. I ran parenting groups with diverse clientele based on a curriculum I compiled. I am passionate about helping individuals hear each other and be heard more effectively. With good boundaries and communication, your family can enjoy more balance and harmony.

With over 25 years of experience in the field, I’ve had the privilege of working with countless families, guiding them through the intricate dynamics of parenting, communication, and emotional growth. I hold an M.A. in Psychology, with an emphasis in drama therapy, from the California Institute of Integral studies and have done years of my own personal growth and therapy, so that I may be fearless in accompanying you to the emotional depths of where you might need to go.

My approach is rooted in evidence-based practices and a deep understanding of child development, family systems, and the unique needs of parents. I believe that every family is unique, and I tailor my methods to suit your family's specific circumstances and goals…always with an emphasis on strengths and positives.

As a parent myself, I understand the joys and struggles that come with raising children. My own experiences have taught me the importance of empathy, patience, and the need for support. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where parents can express their feelings, share their challenges, and explore strategies that foster connection and growth within their families.

In our sessions, we will work collaboratively to identify your parenting style, address any concerns, and develop practical strategies that fit your family's values and dynamics. I am committed to focusing on positives (in your child, and in you as a parent). Whether you are facing issues like behavioral challenges, communication breakdowns, or the need for more effective discipline techniques, I'm here to provide guidance and support.

Outside of my practice, I enjoy Jazzercise, outings with friends and my two young adult sons and their partners, time with my cat, travel, the arts, and reading. I am also passionate about continuing education and regularly participate in workshops and training to stay current with the latest research and techniques in therapy.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I look forward to the opportunity to work together and support you on your parenting journey. Remember, you are not alone – let’s navigate this path together!

Sincerely,

Julie Weigel, LMFT
