With 25 years of experience as a family therapist, I can help…whether you need couples therapy, premarital counseling, coparenting therapy, parent/child therapy, extended family therapy, therapy for the whole family, or divorced or blended family therapy.

Are you hoping for a smoother family life, without all the tantrums or conflict? Would you like to turn down the volume on the drama?

Family therapy offers a wealth of benefits that can positively transform your family dynamics, making it a valuable resource for those seeking harmony at home.

It can help with healthy boundaries and improve the effectiveness of communication, so that all family members feel safe, loved, cared about, and heard.

Family Therapy Can Help With:

People Getting Along

Enhanced communication

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy for family members to fall into patterns of miscommunication or silence. Family therapy creates a safe space where everyone can express their feelings, thoughts, and concerns openly. This process fosters a deeper understanding of one another, allowing family members to feel truly heard and validated.

Conflict Resolution

Every family experiences disagreements—it's a natural part of relationships. However, how these conflicts are managed can either strengthen or weaken family bonds.

Through therapy, families learn constructive ways to address disagreements, focusing on understanding, rather than winning arguments. This newfound approach not only resolves current issues but also equips families with the skills to tackle future disagreements more effectively.

Emotional Connection

Many families struggle to maintain a strong emotional bond amidst the chaos of daily life. Therapy sessions often include activities and discussions designed to enhance empathy and compassion among family members.

By sharing experiences and feelings in a supportive environment, family members can break down emotional barriers and rebuild connections that may have been strained over time.

Parenting Tools

Parenting is a challenging journey, and it can be especially tough during transitions like divorce or the blending of families. Family therapy equips parents with strategies for effective discipline, nurturing, and communication.

This empowers parents to create a more harmonious home environment, where children feel secure and valued. The guidance received during therapy can help parents navigate the complexities of raising children in today’s world, fostering resilience and emotional intelligence in their kids.

Facilitate Healing

Family therapy can facilitate healing in families dealing with trauma or significant life changes. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a divorce, or the challenges of a blended family, these situations can create emotional turmoil and distress.

Therapy provides a safe space to process these experiences collectively, allowing family members to support one another through healing and adaptation. It can be a powerful catalyst for growth, enabling families to emerge stronger and more unified.

Promote a Culture of Accountability and Responsibility

When family members understand the impact of their actions and words, they become more mindful of how they treat each other. This newfound awareness encourages positive behavior changes and strengthens the overall family dynamic.

How I Approach Family Therapy

I always notice and prioritize building on strengths, instead of focusing on problems. Sometimes the whole family is present for sessions, but just as often, I work strategically with part of the family, whether it is a pair of conflicted family members or parents who could be more effective through being more unified, or a couple that dreams of reigniting the spark that brought them together.

Sometimes I work with couples in premarital counseling as they are just embarking on a life together and want to anticipate and prevent any future conflict. Having worked for Kids Turn, for divorcing or separating families, I also specialize in working with families around divorce and blended family issues.
